My third visit to Bunche Beach Preserve at San Carlos Bay in Lee County in a week's time was a sunrise arrival on 1 April.

Bird numbers remained very good although I was disappointed that American Avocet that had earlier been observed by others with increasing numbers in preceding days at Bunche eluded me. This trip to the beach would nonetheless make for the start of a very enjoyable day.

The waders were in prolific numbers among shorebirds with a flyby disturbance by a Bald Eagle. The observations passed all too quickly. The tide was best for observations from the west channel.

I was most entertained by a pair of Willets that appeared to be establishing a relationship or territorial dominance. That answer might have been assured if I were not distracted by a Spotted Sandpiper that was very active as well.

The sandpiper was somewhat attentive to the presence of an Osprey that had flown to a branch nearly directly above us. The Osprey was without doubt well accustomed to the presence of people as it remained perched as I moved around including directly under it.

Although I didn't notice it at the time of the observation of the sandpiper in real time, the images captured of the bird seem to indicate evidence of an injury on its breast. The bird appeared oblivious to the ailment.
